FENTON HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION REUNIONS

The celebration of the 175th anniversary of the founding of the Village of Fenton will be celebrated during the summer of 2009, and will add to the festivities of the Freedom Festival on July 4th.

For the alumni of Fenton High School, the All-Class, All-School Triennial Reunion will add another dimension to the days of celebration.  Our reunion will be held on Friday, July 3rd 2009. This date was especially chosen to accommodate those who wished to participate in Village Anniversary activities and Fenton’s Freedom Festival on July 4th.

It is expected that the number attending will exceed the 350 former students who attended the 2006 Reunion.  The banquet that year was held in the Gymnasium of the Fenton High School. In the last year the high school facilities have been improved and offer an excellent location for the reunion banquet, however, Barbara (Gould) Soyka ’69 who chairs the planning committee reports they are considering three other possible venues:  St. John Activity Center; Fenton Methodist Activity Center; and the AGS Middle School. (All alternate sites are air conditioned!).

The significant portion of the program will be the induction of those alumni selected for membership in the Fenton High School Hall of Fame.. The Hall of Fame committee, chaired by John Hillis ’58, is considering a number of nominations of worthy alumni for recognition and induction at the reunion.

The “Hospitality Room” in which school and class memorabilia is on display was open to all alumni and friends. Ken Seger ‘54, Director of the Fenton Museum will prepare the room.

The proceeds from the Banquet are generally sufficient to cover the expenses incurred to produce the event, with the cost of the food, tables and chairs, and mailing letters of invitation being the largest expenditures. The collection of membership dues and other gifts help maintain the association’s operational expenses.

Money donated to the Scholarship Fund is invested and no part of the fund is available for other expenses.   Our Association began awarding Scholarship funds with the Class of 1995 which has continued through the most recent graduation.  With the awards made to the 2008 graduates, your Association has awarded a total of $74,500 to 62 individuals. The interest earned from the investment of the Scholarship Fund provides the finances for the annual awards. As of August 2008, the Scholarship Fund balance was $372,000.

If you are considering making a donation to the Association, please consider giving an “Unrestricted” gift to provide the monies required to “keep the flame burning” from year to year. While our expenses are minimal between the Triennial Reunions, there are some costs incurred in maintaining our website and database and just doing ordinary business. Small contributions are very much appreciated!

Several classes hold their individual Class Reunions in conjunction with the All School, All Class Triennial Reunion. Other classes scheduled reunion dates completely removed from the “Big” reunion. The Association is requesting that when considering and planning an individual class reunion during 2009, they seriously consider the advantages of scheduling their event in conjunction with the All-School reunion. This arrangement allows those attending the opportunity to not only renew friendships with their classmates, but also visit with others from other classes who were in high school at the same time.

If your class is planning an individual class reunion, please provide the Association with the date and all the details. Those classes who have reported their reunion plans to us are listed on the reunion schedules page. If you are aware of other reunions, which are not listed, please provide us the information so they may also be included in the list.
