FENTON HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIPS

The Fenton High School Alumni Association has established a scholarship endowment fund for the purpose of awarding scholarships to graduates of Fenton High School. Our plan is to award a minimum of four $1,000 scholarships each year. At least one of the scholarships is awarded to a graduate pursuing advanced vocational/technical education. The fund investment is expected to provide an annual yield of at least $4,000 for the purpose of granting scholarships.

Through our affiliation with the Community Foundation of Greater Flint, contributions to the Alumni Association receive favorable tax treatment. If you do not already have a favorite charity, please consider this fund.

The fund began with a donation of $32,000 from The State Bank of Fenton for the purpose of establishing the "Hitchcock Memorial Scholarship". Consequently, one of the awards has been named for the distinguished alumni, Horace Hitchcock, Class of 1917, who many of the older alumni will remember.

Beginning in 2001, Donald Shepherd, Class of 1954, set up a scholarship at the University of Michigan for graduates of Fenton High School. In the firxt few years, the Alumni Association in conjunction with the university selected the candidates for the $2,500 per year renewable scholarship. This was separate from the scholarship fund and grants described earlier. The FHSAA is no longer involved in the administration of this scholarship.

As of August, 2008, the market value of the Scholarship fund was $372,000. Contributions of $1,000 or more are listed on a special FHSAA "Honor Roll" plaque located in our "Hall of Fame" in the Fenton High School.
